Eco-ol School

By 2050 when India’s young children will be adults, the country’s population is estimated to be 1.7 billion.

In today’s India, with a population of 1.3 billion people, of the 62 million tonnes of waste India generates PER DAY, 31 million tonnes is sent to landfills, many of which are unscientific, significantly above their saturation limits and risky for health and the environment. With accelerated economic growth and consumerism veering towards use and throw, waste generated are estimated to triple in 25 years.

The Swacch Bharath Campaign has made us all aware of our impact as citizens on the world around us. However, there still remains a gap between awareness and solutions. The "sweep it and throw it away" attitude is not helping solve the mountainous issue of waste being generated in our country!

Our school programs are thus designed to educate the future generation about sustainable methods of Waste Management (WM). We have three clear offerings for schools:

Eco-ol School Program:

Designed as an experiential program, it helps children recognise how most of our waste produced is in fact a resource!  Besides the solutions, the program also focuses on sensitising young minds of the degrading nature of jobs held by our city's unsung heroes: the waste pickers and how we can ease their jobs and make it more dignified!

Know More:

Our school contact program is designed to educate the future generation about sustainable methods of Waste Management (WM). We believe that the next generation of citizens should be future ready in this aspect. The core of this program is a curriculum based approach to WM.

The 3-phased curriculum is designed as follows:

  • Sensitisation Phase
      • What is waste and what is the journey of our waste?
      • How to Manage each category of Waste responsibly.
      • Our unsung heroes - the waste picker.
      • Waste is not “Waste” but a Resource if managed properly.
  • Solution seeking Phase: The Doing Phase
      • Composting & Growing.
      • Simple Upcycling projects.
      • Children audit their school and design waste management solutions.
  • Sustenance – To spread Message to their communities
      • Children as young trainers:  Once coached, children become young trainers for their immediate communities and together with school authorities, we can help design an awareness campaign during their annual days/ PTMs/ in societies in their immediate vicinity.

Eco-ol School Fest:

StoneSoup looks at providing a platform for the schools to showcase collective solutions for the problem the city is facing today. Ecool School will steer innovative solutions through concept stalls, plays, music and dance for the twin menaces of garbage and plastic that is haunting Bangalore.

Designed as quarterly events, we partner with schools in different zones in the city to host this eco-awareness fest to help young minds be aware, question, collectively find solutions for the city’s waste related problems.

Do check our calendar of events for announcements of our next event.

Eco-ol School Audit:

This is an institution- level service provided by Stonesoup, wherein we audit the premises basis government guidelines with regards to waste management and provide a report card. This report card will guide institutions on corrective steps to be taken by them to be compliant to rules, as well as provide a clean and healthy environment that emulates these values to their young wards.
